A word from Diane
This scarf is a graphic piece of incredible richness, all the more precious as it was designed only for the large 140 cm format. The combination of cashmere and silk gives the shawl a sublime drape, light and warm at the same time, and makes the colours even deeper. Bingata is an invitation to travel, a joyful and complex design that finds its place on a winter coat or draped over the shoulders for an evening out. It is the ultimate luxury: a piece both comfortable and spectacular.
Description of this shawl by the House of Hermès:
"Developed in the 14th century, Bingata is a dyeing process originating in the Okinawa archipelago, when it was the Ryūkyū Kingdom, at the crossroads of the trade routes between South-East Asia, China and the Japanese Empire. Different techniques are combined to create Bingata. First, a stencil is applied to the fabric, which is then coated with a rice paste in order to reproduce the motifs on the material. The areas to be painted are soaked in a soy-based mixture to help fix the colour pigments. The result is incredibly delicate, as illustrated by this shawl designed by Natsuno Hidaka, which draws inspiration from this savoir-faire."
